Expresso Yourself – Official Speech Event Rules

1. Event Overview

“Expresso Yourself” is an inclusive speech event encouraging participants to express themselves on a wide range of topics, share their stories, and inspire others. The event fosters respect, creativity, and open dialogue.

2. Eligibility

Open to participants of all ages, backgrounds, and skill levels.
Participants must register prior to the event, providing necessary details including their speech topic or title.
Minors (under 18) are not eligible to participate.

3. Speech Guidelines

Topic: Participants are free to choose any topic, but speeches must align with the event’s inclusive and respectful values.
Length: Speeches must be between 13 to 15 minutes long.
Introduction: Speakers must provide the event organizers a written introduction to their speech 5 days before the event.

Content:
No offensive, discriminatory, or hateful language will be tolerated.
No explicit content, including graphic violence or inappropriate sexual themes.
No  political and religious content.
Originality: Speeches must be original.
Visual Aids: Participants may not use visual aids.

4. Judging Criteria

Audience members will be instructed to judge based on the following:

Content: Originality, and clarity of ideas.
Delivery: Tone, confidence, body language, and eye contact.
Structure: Organization of ideas, introduction, main points, and conclusion.
Impact: Ability to inspire, entertain, or emotionally engage the audience.

5. Scoring and Awards

Each speech will be scored by audience members via mobile app. In the event that the app is suddenly unavailable, event organizers will poll the audience via write-in ballots.

6. Code of Conduct

All participants and audience members are expected to act respectfully toward others.
Disruptive behavior, heckling, or harassment of any kind will result in removal from the event.
Participants must arrive at least 30 minutes before the event to confirm registration and receive final instructions.

7. Event Logistics

Venue: The event will be held at Jarrod’s Coffee, Tea, & Gallery: 109 W University Dr, Mesa, AZ 85201
Date & Time: The event will take place on October 20th, 2024 from 2:00 to 4:00.

Maximum 6 participants. In the event of a participant cancellation, alternates will be invited in the order of form submission.

8. Miscellaneous

Participants may be photographed or filmed during the event for promotional purposes.
By registering, participants agree to the terms outlined in these rules.
